Chemistry Success

We are delighted to report recent successes in both the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge and the SPGS Chemistry Race. Well done to all the pupils involved.

Cambridge Chemistry Challenge

At the end of June, 95 Paulines participated in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge. Most were from the Lower Eighth, along with a few Sixth Form pupils celebrating the end of their GCSEs and two enthusiastic pupils from the Fourth and Fifth Forms. Pupils earned 35 gold, 34 silver, and 17 copper awards. James Williams (Lower Eighth) and Adavya Goyal (Sixth Form) achieved roentgenium awards, given only to the top 0.54% of 12,888 competitors, and received invitations to a residential camp in Cambridge over the summer. Special mentions go to Richard Zhan (Fifth Form), who won a silver award, and Ari Pissioti Capriello (Fourth Form), who won a gold award. One question required pupils to analyze the 3D structures adopted by the long carbon chains in 鈥渇orever chemicals鈥 like Teflon.

SPGS Chemistry Race

On Wednesday 27 June, 23 Lower Eighth students, separated into five teams, competed at the SPGS Chemistry Race against a number of other local schools. The competition involved teams answering as many chemistry questions as they could in the allotted time, with the highest number of points going to the group that could answer the most questions in the smallest number of attempts (five points for getting it right the first time, four points second time, and so on). Well done to all the 快色视频鈥檚 teams who entered, but especially to Friends of Erasmus, West London Dispersion Forces, and Atom and the Electrons – chemistry puns were encouraged – who came first, second, and third respectively.
