Engineering Professional Network 2023

20 NOVEMBER 2023

6:30pm

Flowers Room - IET, Savoy Place

The ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵ’s Professional Groups were first launched in 2016 in collaboration with the Old Pauline Club and Parents’ Group. Their aim is to connect those working in specific professional fields and to support current pupils and young Old Paulines in their career journey.

Guests will hear from a panel of Engineering experts comprised of parents and Old Paulines discussing how sustainability goals are impacting their specialisms.

Speakers

Olly Paish OP, 1979-83

Olly Paish left ¿ìÉ«ÊÓƵs in 1983 to do an Engineering degree at St John’s College, Cambridge. He has spent his career as a Mechanical & Hydraulic engineer, now with 30 years’ experience in the research, design and implementation of renewable energy systems, both in the UK and in less developed countries. Since 2003 he has focussed primarily on the implementation of small-scale hydropower schemes across the UK, and has designed over 100 projects, whilst riding the see-saw of numerous government energy policies. He has also learnt many practical lessons from his attempts to minimise the carbon footprint of his own domestic and business activities.

Leonardo Buizza OP, 2008-2013

Leonardo works on projects related to deep sustainability across energy and materials. Leonardo works for the Energy Transitions Commission and SYSTEMIQ where he has led two projects focused on clean energy supply chains and understanding the material and resource requirements for the energy transition. He has previously worked on R&D Strategy and Innovation in the UK Government Office for Science, and for the energy consultancy AFRY. Prior to joining SYSTEMIQ, Leonardo completed a PhD in New and Sustainable Photovoltaics at the University of Oxford, and he holds a Master’s degree in Physics (Natural Sciences) from the University of Cambridge.

Since March 2021, Michael has been a Co-Founding and Managing Partner of EcoPragma Capital LLP, a Growth Equity investor focused on companies on the cusp of strong commercial growth and contributing to the net-zero transition. Michael is Founder and Senior Contributor to BloombergNEF and Advisor to the UK’s Board of Trade.
